Welcome to Penmai...friend.

No. Brain death is entirely different from Coma.

The coma patients can recover from the coma state at any time, even after 15, 20 years.

The recent example is the Car racer Michael Schumacher. He has reccently recovered from his Coma state after few months and is normal now.

The Coma is an Unconscious state, in which they cannot respond to light , sound or their pain. Their sleeping cycle or voluntary movements of the body will also be missing. Sometimes, they will be seen opening their eyes. but they cannot respond to anything.

In this state, all their vital body parts will be working, like brain, heart etc. But the brain will not be awake.

In the case of Brain death, the brainstem which will be present just above the neck will be dead. In this case, the patient is irrecoverable and he can never become alive again.

His vital parts like Heart and other parts will work if it is given Life support like the Ventilator. If the Ventilator is removed, they will stop working.

So, they will remove the necessary donating parts, while the person is under ventilator

That is why, the organs of the Brain dead persons can be donated to other persons who are in need of it. But it should be given within certain hours. Each part has different life time.
